I always marvel at the sheer deapth of feelings anything and everything associated with 'train' evoke. The hours i used to spend waiting for the late night trains in a station, on college vacations...I found these lines by Neruda..He might have felt something akin to what we feel. See how he fuses two of the most nostalgic of poetic images:rain and train! But then he was a poet who could create potry out of what totally 'unpoetic'.
Tell me, is the rose naked or is that her only dress?
Why do trees conceal the splendor of their roots?
Who hears the regrets of the thieving automobile?
Is there anything in the world sadder than a train standing in the rain?
